I am not knocking your opinion, but Disney did have approval on this video because she was still under contract with them when it was shot. However the moment she finished filming the last episode of HM season 4 she no longer worked for Disney. Everyone seems to forget that every female singer has fans in the same age groups they say should not see Miley’s video yet they will have seen Beyonce and Lady Gaga in Telephone & I don’t mean the “clean” version. Miley’s video is very tame by comparison
The Vanity Fair picture in question shows her back bare and no more than you saw of her in the dress she wore to the Oscars this year. People just made a big deal over nothing because they could. The incident with the pole was at the Teen Choice Awards last year when she performed Party In The USA. The way people are treating that they are basically saying a girl should never touch a pole for any reason or they will be considered a pole dancer. Should they avoid them like black cats now? LOL
@NJRinglord I understand your opinion on this, but I would also like to point out that the issue of posing for Vanity Fair was that you couldn’t tell Miley was wearing anything. Also, I don’t have too much of a problem with the pole, and I’m sorry I didn’t make that entirely clear. My only concern is that it could potentially be taken the wrong way, and these things need to be thought out thoroughly, especially since celebrities have a major impact on their viewers (particularly young ones).
@NJRinglord Yes, Miley’s video is tame compared to many. The only difference is that Miley’s targeted age group is much younger. I also understand that she may be trying to transition, but her younger viewers are essentially being told it’s ok to mimic her, since her music was initially targeted to them. Lady Gaga and Beyonce are targeting older viewers, which doesn’t necessarily make it appropriate, but at least their viewers are (generally) more responsible and are past the malleable age.
@MsPetri007 … are not going to pay enough attention to notice that long before the video premiered it was stated it was edgier & sexier than anything she did before & to see it first before they let their kids watch it, those same parents sure as heck did not do the same for Beyonce’s & Lady Gaga’s video Telephone likely because Beyonce has a very similar image to Miley as HM. Despite her previous mistakes we never saw her younger fans mimic any of that behavior did we. Thanks for listening.
@MsPetri007 see that is the mistake people keep making. Miley is not Hannah Monatana and her own music was never marketed for the same audience. Even allowing for that those same fans that started with her are all now 5 years older so the majority of her fans are 13 – 21 years old. Because HM is labeled as a kids show everyone WANTS Miley’s musical fans to be kids because if they are not then that means she is actually good and people don’t want to admit that. Not to mention if the parents …
@MsPetri007 yes you know she is not wearing anything under the sheet covering her, but by the same standard you also know she had nothing else on under that dress she wore to the Oscars, not even a bra since the dress was strapless and backless. So sheet or dress it really is the same thing. Besides at 15 when those VF pics were taken she should have been able to trust the adults on that photo shoot to do what was right and not exploit her, but they did anyway and she learned a lesson.
@NJRinglord You bring up a good point. I’ve actually considered this myself as well. While her music was never specifically targeted to a younger age group, the fact that she is the same person playing both the roles of actress and singer causes a kind of drift of fans. Honestly, if a fan truly likes a singer/actress, they will explore all aspects of that person. Also, to address your point that her fans are now grown up, I’d like to counter that she is also gaining many fans…
@NJRinglord …My only concern is for the upcoming generations. If they do not have a sense of what is socially acceptable, it will be hard for them to succeed.
Thank you so much for your comments! And thank you for being respectful. I truly do appreciate it.
@NJRinglord That’s precisely how the industry works. If they were not consistently gaining fans, there would be no benefit to keeping them on contract. Many of the kids I babysit love HM, and so they learn Miley’s music. Keep in mind most of these kids aren’t even eight years old yet. It concerns me that they look up to something like that, imitate these dance moves, and grow up thinking it’s acceptable to do in a social setting…
@MsPetri007 My concern is that parents need to be the example setters for their kids and stop letting celebrities do it. The one thing in all the hoopla over the things Miley has done that makes me think things are still ok is that we have not seen a rash of young kids doing the same things she did. Which tells me hopefully that Miley does not have the power over her young fans people think she does. Ultimately the parents have to be parents and set the rules. You are welcome
@NJRinglord I couldn’t agree more. So many parents are slacking off these days, and it’s really posing a threat to society. Unfortunately, this means that we need to take extra precautions to make sure that those with slackers of parents actually have people they can rely on and look up to.
dude i am getting so tired of people talking about how inappropriate her video is. she is like what 17 now she is almost an adult. she made the choice for the video and the parents who don’t like their kids to watch it i say, that most kids don’t watch the music videos for songs they just like the music and if you don’t want them to watch it its called blocking the site or address that simple. and most of her now addenice is preteens and teens and they dont care about that stuff

Pre Teens? Try 8 year olds that watch her get provocative.
